RELICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
For Physicians and Psychologists

1. Physician CME Requirements and Resources

REQUIREMENTS: Below is a summary of Florida CME requirements, effective July 1,2006:

Initial licensure:
2 credits in Prevention of Medical Errors
First renewal:
1 credit in HIV/AIDS
2 credits in Prevention of Medical Errors
Every renewal thereafter:
38 credit hours of CME including 2 credits in 
2 hours in Prevention of Medical Errors
In addition, every third renewal:
2 credits in Domestic Violence

2. Psychologist CE Requirements and Resources

REQUIREMENTS: Florida Board of Psychology requires psychologists renewing their license to complete the following CE courses during each relicensure period:
• 2 of the 40 hours must be on domestic violence must be completed on every third biennial licensure renewal period.
• 3 of the 40 hours must be on professional ethics and Florida statutes and rules affecting the practice of psychology.
• 2 of the forty 40 hours must relate to prevention of medical errors, including a study of root-cause analysis, error reduction and prevention, and patient safety.

SELF-STUDY COURSES

Internet Option:
Medical Errors: Promoting a Culture of Patient Safety - This course satisfies continuing education relicensure requirements for Florida medical doctors and psychologists. Approved for 2 CME/CE credits. There is no registration fee. Go to www.baptisthealth.net/meded. The course is listed on the main CME page under "Featured CME Events." Select either the Physician or Psychologist course and click to begin.

DVD Option:
The Medical Education Department has the following course available on DVD.
□ Patient Safety - Prevention of Medical Errors

Other RESOURCES for Self-study:

If you wish to complete your continuing education relicensure requirements by using other resources, the Medical Education Department suggests some options that are available to the public.

Physicians:
□ InforMed provides a Florida Physician Update that includes Prevention of Medical Errors and HIV/AIDS Update. Physicians can choose the specific courses they need, and costs vary, starting at $20 for 1-2 credits. The course(s) can be taken online at www.informed.cme.edu.
□ Florida Medical Association offers Domestic Violence and Prevention of Medical Errors at its website, http://www.fmaonline.org/Template.aspx?id=168. The cost is FREE for FMA members and $100 for nonmembers.
□ The Prevention of Medical Errors, Domestic Violence and HIV/AIDS Update courses are available FREE through the Florida Keys AHEC online at http://www.aheceducation.com/AboutUs.aspx.

Psychologists:
PROGRAM SERVICES provides immediate opportunities for continuing education programs for professionals in psychology. CE courses are available online or as a home study. The fees vary depending on the number of courses selected; the average cost is $10 per credit (01/05/09).
