| What services does my hospital bill include? |
Your hospital bill includes your daily service charges (payment for your room, nursing care, meals, housekeeping, linen and other support services). Additional charges may include services ordered by your physician, such as X-rays, laboratory tests, medical supplies and therapeutic services. |
| How may I pay my bill? |
You may pay your bill by mail, by contacting our customer service representatives, or by coming to your hospital of service to pay your bill directly to one of our cashiers. We accept American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, cash, check or money order. |
| I received a bill from a doctor I did not see. Why? |
Sometimes your doctor orders laboratory testing, X-rays and other imaging services in order to determine a diagnosis. These tests are sent to physician specialists for analysis, and you may not see these doctors. You will receive a bill directly from these physicians for these studies. Should you have any questions about the physicians’ bills, please contact their offices directly. |
| What if I get more than one bill? |
You may receive more than one bill for the same hospital stay. In addition to the bill from Baptist Health, you may also get bills from your doctor, as well as other physicians such as anesthesiologists, radiologists, pathologists or other healthcare professionals not employed by Baptist Health. These physicians bill separately for their services. Should you have any questions about the physicians’ bills, please contact their offices directly. |

| How do I get information about Medicare? |
Please refer to Medicare’s website at http://www.medicare.gov/ |
| Who should I contact if I have an insurance-related problem? |
Please contact your insurance company with any insurance-related concerns. |
| Why do I receive letters that state "THIS IS NOT A BILL"? |
The letters are to inform you either that Baptist Health has recently sent your account to your insurance company for payment or that your insurance company has not yet paid us. These letters are intended to update you on your claim status. |
| What insurance information should I bring upon my visit to the hospital or outpatient center? |
Please bring your insurance card to your visit. If you have any secondary insurance information, it is important to provide this information as well upon registration. |
| How will I know if my insurance company has paid my bill? |
You should receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance carrier outlining how your claim was handled, including amount of payment, patient responsibility and/or denials. If there is a balance due from you, we will mail you a statement. |
| Do I need to let my insurance company know that I am going to be in the hospital? |
We encourage you to check with your insurance provider prior to your hospital or outpatient center visit. Some insurance carriers require pre-authorization or referral forms prior to the day of surgery or tests. It is the patient’s responsibility to know whether or not they need to obtain pre-authorization or referral for their surgery or tests. Some insurance providers will not pay for certain services, unless the service has been pre-authorized. |
| Will you bill my insurance company for me? |
Yes, we will bill your insurance company for you; however, you are responsible for paying any deductible, co-payment, or coinsurance amounts as specified under the schedule of benefits of your insurance coverage. Payment of these amounts will be requested at the time of service. |
| Will I be required to pay anything when I arrive at the hospital? |
You will be required to pay the difference, if any, between your verified insurance benefits and the estimated charges for your stay or procedure. This includes any deductible, co-payment, or coinsurance amounts as specified under the schedule of benefits of your insurance coverage. |
| What costs will my insurance company cover? |
Coverage varies with each insurance company. Please contact your insurance company to obtain coverage information specific to your policy. |
| Financial Assistance/Charity Care |
| If I can’t afford to pay for services, is there a charity care program available? |
The Baptist Health charity care program has been expanded and is providing more than $112 million in free services to uninsured patients who qualified – up from $93 million in the previous year. The program provides free care for patients whose income is up to three times (300 percent) the federal poverty level. We also offer a sliding scale of discounts for those whose income exceeds the poverty level, in special cases of hardship. Please call 786-573-6004 for more information, and click here for information on our website about qualifying for charity care. |
| Will Baptist Health provide care for me even if I do not have insurance coverage? |
Yes, however, you will be asked to pay the full amount of your estimated charges at the time of service. If you cannot pay the entire estimated bill, we will ask you to speak with a financial counselor to discuss a plan for paying your bill. Baptist Health has established a Financial Assistance Program for eligible participants. Our program provides discounts and payment plan arrangements for uninsured, eligible participants. If you are interested in applying for this program, please contact our Patient Financial Services representatives.
