What is it?
Bone densitometry is a diagnostic test used to measure the amount of mineral or bone mass in bones. The most commonly used test is the dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). It involves lying on a table for 10-20 minutes while a low-dose X-ray beam scans your spine and hips. The test involves no pain and no known risk other than minimal radiation exposure. The technologist is in the room while the test is being performed.
