Plans for the 2007 Mariners Hospital Bougainvillea Ball are underway. Tradition will hold, and the annual gala will be the last Saturday in January – Jan. 27 – at Cheeca Lodge, MM 82, Islamorada.
Organized by Mariners Hospital Foundation, the Bougainvillea Ball is the largest fundraising event for the not-for-profit community hospital. Proceeds from the 2007 ball will help defray the costs of eICU LifeGuard, which provides an extra level of care for the most critically ill patients at Mariners. “It’s our tradition to get better every year,” said Jo McGregor, co-chair of the Bougainvillea Ball Committee. “This year, tradition will live on with more outstanding decorations, a scrumptious meal, tremendous auction items and an outstanding band. The ball definitely will be the place to be this January.” Joining Ms. McGregor as co-chair is Betty Anne Schilling. Other committee members are Mary Joan Brito, Phyllis Elden, Leslie Leopold, Carol Luse, Debi Malone and Sunne Rego.
The Bougainvillea Ball will begin with a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by dinner, dancing and a live auction from 8 p.m. to midnight. Dance music will be provided by Heatwave of Fort Lauderdale. Auction items include lavish getaways, original artwork and exquisite home accessories. Retired CBS4 chief meteorologist Bob Soper will serve as auctioneer. In addition, a 13-foot Boston Whaler with a 40-horsepower four-stroke engine, donated by Caribee Boat Sales and Marina, will be raffled off the evening of the ball. Tickets to the 2007 Bougainvillea Ball are $200 per person. VIP tables for 10 to 12 people are available for $5,000, and Royal Tables that seat 10 to 12 people may be purchased for $3,800. A portion of the ticket cost is tax deductible. For an invitation or more information, contact Mariners Hospital Foundation at 305-434-4111, or one of the committee members.
