The Bougainvillea Ball, Mariners Hospital’s major fundraising event, will be held Saturday, Jan. 26 at Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada.
“Our theme this year is Follow The Silk Road,” said Jo McGregor, the ball’s co-chair. “The story of The Silk Road, one of the world’s oldest and most historically important trade routes, is a fascinating tale. The evening will capture the fascination of that route and bring it to our event.”
The festivities will start with a reception and silent auction with more than 100 items. Bidding will go vocal during a live auction for items such as a four-night stay in a private residence in Blue Heaven in Hope Town, $2000 worth of fish, an original Tiffany marlin pendant with a total of 3.4 karats of diamonds and a Charriol Celtic Noir 18K white gold diamond necklace.
In addition to the auctions, there will be a raffle for a special 50th anniversary edition 2008 13-foot Boston Whaler Sport with a 40-horsepower, four-stroke Mercury engine, E-Z Loader trailer and bimini top. Bill Gilbert, owner of Caribee Boat Sales and Marina, donated the ensemble. Raffle tickets for the boat are available in the hospital lobby. The cost is $100 each and only 200 tickets will be sold. The winner does not need to be present at the ball.
Organized by Mariners Hospital Foundation, the Bougainvillea Ball is the largest fundraising event for the not-for-profit community hospital. Proceeds from the auctions, raffle, donations and ticket sales will help defray the cost of acquiring a state-of-the art 64 slice multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) imaging system. The system’s speed and high quality images will enable Mariners to provide significant improvements in diagnostic testing.
Tickets to the 2008 Bougainvillea Ball are $200 per person. A portion of the ticket cost is tax deductible. For an invitation or more information, contact Mariners Hospital Foundation at 305-434-4111.
