Two Named to Homestead Hospital Board of Directors

Maria Costa-Smith and Johanna Paterson have been named to the board of directors of Homestead Hospital.   They join 13 other board members who help guide the faith-based, not-for-profit hospital that is part of Baptist Health South Florida.   All Baptist Health board members are volunteers who serve without compensation.

Ms. Costa-Smith is president of the color division of Costa Farms located in Goulds, Fla.  She is responsible for the company’s operations in Miami, Ashville, N.C., and Pipersville, Pa.  Ms. Costa-Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and a master’s degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Florida.  She lives in Kendall with her husband and their three sons.

Ms. Paterson is a former banking executive.  She spent 13 years managing international operations and fundraising campaigns for SunTrust Bank.  Ms. Paterson also serves on the Homestead Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.  She volunteers at The Academy of Ocean Reef as a member of the school’s finance committee, and as vice president and treasurer of the Parent Teacher Organization. She earned a degree in international business from Auburn University in Alabama.   Ms. Paterson is a resident of Ocean Reef in Key Largo and has a son.

Homestead Hospital is part of Baptist Health South Florida, the area’s largest faith-based, not-for-profit healthcare organization. Baptist Health also includes Baptist Hospital, Baptist Children’s Hospital, South Miami Hospital, Doctors Hospital, Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute and Baptist Outpatient Services. Baptist Health Foundation, the organization’s fundraising arm, supports services at all hospitals and facilities affiliated with Baptist Health.
