Q: How can international physicians apply to the observership program?
A: Applications are accepted via mail, e-mail and fax.
Q: What is the address and contact information to send the application?
A: The application and the required documents must be sent to Olinto Lima, MD, International Medical Liaison, at 8940 North Kendall Drive, Suite 601-E, Miami, FL 33176, by e-mail: olintol@baptisthealth.net, and by fax to (786) 596-3648
Q: Who is eligible to participate?
A: The Observership Program is open to international physicians who are already a specialist and staff member in one of the affiliated hospitals with Baptist Health International Center of Miami.
Q: How can an international physician participate if that he/she is not a staff member in one of the affiliated hospitals?
A: Those who are not a staff member of the affiliated hospitals must present two reference letters from a staff member in the same specialty in one of the affiliated hospitals of Baptist Health International Center of Miami.
Q: Are there any requirements?
A: The following requirements must be met and submitted to Baptist Health International Medical Education Medical Director:
• Observership Application Form.
• Curriculum Vitae
• Copy of Medical School Diploma
• Copy of Specialty Certificate
• Evidence of fluency in English.
• Reference letter
• Evidence of health insurance to cover accidents, illness, etc. while performing the observership
Q: How long should I apply in advance?
A: The application should be sent at least 3 months in advance of the date requested.
Q: How long is the observership period time and working hours?
A: The observership period time will be from two to four weeks per individual. The supervisor or coordinator in each department will provide the observer with the specific working hours.
Q: Does the hospital sponsor any visas?
A: No. Each observer must obtain his or her own Visa that will be in force for the entire duration of the observership. Once approved for the observership, the sponsor will send a confirmation letter that may help in obtaining the Visa.
Q: Is there any stipend support or benefits?
A: No stipend support, compensation, insurance coverage, benefits, meals or housing will be provided by Baptist Health South Florida, Baptist Health International Center of Miami, or any of their affiliates.
Q: Is there any certificate?
A: Yes. When the observer has finished the appointment of at least two weeks or 80 hours, the sponsor will provide the observer with a certificate of completion.
