Q: How can an international medical student apply to the International Medical Internship Program?
A: Applications are accepted via mail, e-mail and fax.
Q: What is the address and contact information to send the application?
A: The application, together with the requirements must be sent to Mario A. Mendez, M.D., Chief Medical Officer-AVP, by one of the following methods: by mail to 8940 North Kendall Drive, Suite 601-E, Miami, FL 33176; by e-mail to MarioMen@baptisthealth.net ; or by fax to the attention of Dr. Mendez at (786) 596-3648.
Q: Who is eligible to participate?
A: The International Medical Internship Program at Baptist Health South Florida (BHSF) is granted to international students who are graduating from a Medical School affiliated with Baptist Health International Center of Miami or another medical school that BHSF maintains a relationship with. (Please clarify. Is the internship program oen to everyone or is this an International Medical Students Internship? What about interns from other hospitals?)
Q: Are there any requirements?
A: Yes. The following requirements must be met and submitted to the Baptist Health International Medical Education Medical Director:
• Letter of intent addressed to Baptist Health International Center of Miami
• Internship Application Form
• Letter of recommendation from the Dean or Medical Director of Medicine School
• University grades
• Evidence of fluency in English
• Evidence of health insurance to cover accidents, illness, etc. while performing the internship
Q: Are there rotations in all specialties?
A: No. BHSF offers internship in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics only.
Q: How long in advance should an intern apply?
A: The application form, together with the requirements listed on the form, must be sent at least 3 months in advance of the Period of Appointment.
Q: How long is the internship period time and working hours?
A: The internship period time will be three months in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. The time frame may be varied but cannot be extended. The Supervisor in each department will provide the intern with the specific working hours. (Is this 3 months in internal medicine and 3 months in pediatrics or 3 months total?)
Q: Does the hospital sponsor any visas?
A: No. Each intern must obtain his or her own Visa, which will be in force for the entire duration of the internship. Once approved for the internship, however, BHSF will send an Internship Confirmation letter that may help with the approval of the Visa.
Q: Is there any stipend support or benefits?
A: No stipend support, compensation, insurance coverage, benefits, meals or housing will be provided by Baptist Health South Florida or its affiliates to the intern or the intern’s dependents.
Q: Is there any certificate?
A: Yes. When the internship has been successfully completed, the sponsor (BHSF) will provide the intern with a certificate of completion.
