The Outpatient Concussion Program is specially designed to provide follow-up evaluation and treatment during the acute phase after a concussion or more severe traumatic brain injury.
The Facts on Head Injury
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is the leading cause of disability and death among young people in the United States every year. More than 75 percent of head injuries are mild and involve no loss of consciousness, but can result in significant physical, psychological and cognitive deficits that warrant further evaluation and treatment, including:
- Headache
- Sleep problems
- Dizziness
- Poor concentration
- Nausea
- Memory problems
- Vomiting
- Fatigue
- Disorientation
- Irritability
- Light-headedness
- Depression
- Sensitivity to light and noise Anxiety
Early Intervention Makes a Difference
The goal of our program is to provide individualized evaluation and treatment during the acute phase after a concussion by using a medical model that has been proven to maximize recovery and reduce disability associated with a head injury and post-concussive syndrome.
Benefits of the Outpatient Concussion Program
Collaboration with the Referring Physician
The patient's care will be closely coordinated with the referring physician. A detailed report of assessment results and treatment recommendations will be provided to ensure continuity of care.
Expert Staff Provide Individualized Treatment
The interdisciplinary team includes rehabilitation therapists (physical, occupational and speech) and psychological/neuropsychological service providers.
Dedicated Care Coordinator
A case manager will provide support and education, help patients navigate through follow-up care and ensure continuity of care for patients and others in need of TBI resources.
Evidence-based Approach to Treatment
The Outpatient Concussion Program relies on current applied research aimed at identifying factors that enhance treatment and clinical outcomes after a concussion or head injury.
