Birth-Day Place Visiting Hours 12 noon-9 p.m. daily

The philosophy toward childbirth at South Miami Hospital encourages your individuality and supports family involvement. As a full-service maternity center, we establish a relationship with new parents as early as the first trimester of pregnancy.

Precisely equipped and expertly staffed, the Birth-Day Place excels in every stage of the birthing experience. The obstetricians on our medical staff are highly skilled to care for you throughout your pregnancy and delivery. Our anesthesiologists are Board-certified and available 24 hours a day. Our nurses are thoroughly trained and well-known for their gentle touch and concern. We even have neonatologists in the hospital 24 hours a day in case a baby has any special problems.

Our special birthing suites are designed to accommodate the needs and preferences of new parents. You and your family can experience the entire birth - labor, delivery and recovery - in a single room. Each private room provides a warm, home-like atmosphere. And tucked behind the attractive decor is leading-edge technology for your safety and the safety of your baby.

The Birth-Day Place offers a variety of services and programs aimed at making this a truly special time. Our Birth-Day School provides a full range of childbirth classes to help you understand pregnancy, the birth process and parenting.

For expectant parents who want more information about childbirth and parenting, we've created the Great Expectations program. It's free to parents delivering their babies at South Miami Hospital. A registered nurse counselor is available to answer your questions during and after pregnancy. Plus, there are free programs, an online newsletter and discounts to local merchants.

South Miami Hospital houses the only Public Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Center in South Florida.  The hospital’s delivery of more than 4,000 babies annually and its location in culturally diverse Miami position it as an epicenter for the collection of stem-cell-rich umbilical cord blood.  Parents may choose to donate for free their newborn’s umbilical cord blood, which would otherwise be thrown away as medical waste.  Click here for more information on the Public Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Center.

Our nurses can also assist you if you choose to breast-feed your baby. Lactation consultants (specialists in breast-feeding education) are also available for new mothers with special needs. If you or your baby needs follow-up nursing care or breast-feeding assistance after you're home, our Home Health Care services can arrange a visit. And we offer support groups and classes for after your baby is born, including Baby's First Year and infant massage. Visitors
We understand family and friends want to share in the joy of a baby’s birth, but the safety and privacy of our patients are our top priorities.  That’s why we’ve limited the number of visitors in patient rooms to five at a time.  This is to keep the hallways clear when nurses need to transport the babies to the nursery or patients to another room.  If all of the visitors’ passes for a patient room are being used, Security will ask some visitors to wait in the waiting room and will call them when the patient can accept more guests.

Please note our visiting hours have changed. To ensure adequate rest and time for our new parents to learn about their babies, patients may now accept visitors daily from 12 noon-9 p.m.
