Neonatal Care

Baptist Children's Hospital is a leader in advanced pediatric care. The George Batchelor/Gloria Vasta Lewis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) - which provides both level II and III units - can care for very sick newborns who need immediate surgery and those who weigh less than 1,000 grams (2.19 pounds). For more information, send an e-mail to baptistchildrens@baptisthealth.net.

In addition, babies born sick or premature at South Miami Hospital also get advanced neonatal care in the hospital’s Level II and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units.  Neonatologists, physicians specializing in care for premature or sick newborns, are on site 24 hours a day along with nurses trained in the care of preemies.  Neonatal surgery is also performed at South Miami Hospital.

Baptist Health's 24-hour neonatal transport service provides specially trained staff members to transport infants from other medical facilities to the Neonatal Intensive Care Units at South Miami Hospital or Baptist Children’s Hospital.
