South Miami Hospital offers a six-week program to help adult participants (18 years and up) stop smoking.
In partnership with the American Lung Association (ALA) Freedom from Smoking program — and with the help of a certified ALA facilitator, a respiratory therapist and a smoking cessation counselor — smokers in this six-week program, The Elusive Addiction, learn to accept the addiction that may have eluded them for many years.
The program uses clinical assessment and behavior modification with emphasis on positive changes, in order to help the participant become a nonsmoker for life. A series of special activities, special guests and options to help a person stay off cigarettes forever is offered. After completion of the program, follow-up phone calls will be made to participants at three months, six months and one year, and support sessions will be conducted. "The Elusive Addiction" meets January, February, October and November or as needed at South Miami Hospital’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation unit, U.S. 1 and SW 62 Avenue. The fee is $85.
