This test is meant to be a guide for educational purposes only. Answer these questions yes or no as honestly and truthfully as possible.
  1. Do I lose time from work due to my drinking?
  2. Is drinking making my home life unhappy?
  3. Do I drink because I am shy with other people?
  4. Is drinking affecting my reputation?
  5. Do I ever feel remorse after drinking?
  6. Have I gotten into financial difficulties as a result of my drinking?
  7. Do I turn to inferior companions and environment when drinking?
  8. Does my drinking make me careless about my family's welfare?
  9. Has my ambition decreased since drinking?
  10. Do I crave a drink at a definite time daily?
  11. Do I want a drink the next morning?
  12. Does drinking cause me to have difficulty in sleeping?
  13. Has my efficiency decreased since drinking?
  14. Is drinking jeopardizing my job or business?
  15. Do I drink to escape from worries or troubles?
  16. Do I drink alone?
  17. Have I ever had a complete loss of memory as a result of drinking?
  18. Has a physician ever treated me for drinking?
  19. Do I drink to build up self-confidence?
  20. Have I ever been in a hospital or institution for my drinking?
  21. Has spending money on alcohol or drugs kept me from buying necessities, such as food or clothing, or from paying the rent or mortgage?
  22. Have I ever borrowed money to buy alcohol or drugs?
  23. Have I ever missed a day of work because of drinking or using?
  24. Have I ever used alcohol or drugs to help get through the day while at work?
  25. Have I ever driven a car while under the influence of alcohol or drugs?
  26. Do I lie about my alcohol or drug use? Even to my close friends?
  27. Do I use alcohol or drugs to feel good, self-confident, overcome shyness, or to forget my problems?
  28. Have I ever tried to cut down my drinking or drug use?
  29. Do I ever feel guilty about drinking and using? Has anyone ever asked me to stop?
  30. Do I have trouble waking up or feel as if I have a hangover the morning after I drink or use?
  31. Do I suspect that my use of alcohol or drugs has increased over the past few months?
  32. Have I ever thought about suicide since I've been drinking or using?

If you answered yes to any one of the above questions, there is a definite warning that you may be an alcoholic.
If you answered yes to any two questions, the chances are that you are an alcoholic.
If you answered yes to any three or more questions, you are definitely an alcoholic.
