Addiction Treatment : International Patients

 International Patients

Patients come to South Miami Hospital’s Addiction Treatment Center from many different countries seeking treatment for their addictions.  Our bilingual doctors, nurses, therapists and administrative staff communicate in English or Spanish, depending on the patient’s personal preference.

We accept some medical insurance plans, and we will verify patients’ coverage before they arrive in Miami.  Patients who do not have insurance or whose insurance does not cover substance abuse will be notified of the cost of the program.  Physicians’ fees are charged separately. Additional costs may apply if specialists, such as psychiatrists or other medical doctors, are needed during treatment.  We accept all major credit cards, cashier’s checks, money orders or cash.

While the admission process is the same for international patients as it is for patients living in South Florida, we understand being away from home can be intimidating and stressful.  That’s why our staff will make hotel reservations for patients and their families traveling to Miami from abroad.  Payment to the hotel is the patient’s responsibility.

Once patients have their initial evaluation to determine their treatment needs, they will either be admitted to the hospital for detoxification or undergo a medical evaluation.

When patients complete this first phase of treatment and are discharged from the hospital, they are transferred to the Residential Program for at least 30 days.  Here, they live in a one- or two-bedroom cottage close to the hospital and receive personalized attention, group support and structured living arrangements to help them focus on their recovery.

After leaving the Residential Program, international patients often continue their treatment as an outpatient for another four to eight weeks.  Our staff members find special housing in the Miami area for patients to continue their treatment daily at the hospital.

People living outside the United States turn to South Miami Hospital’s Addiction Treatment Center for help recovering from the disease of addiction.  No matter where you call home, the first step toward recovery is a phone call away.  Call 786-662-8118 or toll-free 1-800-YES-HOPE (1-800-937-4673).
