Giving/Foundation: Ways to Give

 Ways to Give

A gift to Baptist Health Foundation supports Baptist Health’s faith-based, charitable mission to provide excellence in healthcare at all our hospitals and facilities through advances in technology, patient care and education.

Your commitment to make a difference will leave a lasting legacy for your children and grandchildren and for the communities that  Baptist Health serves. By carefully planning your charitable gifts, you can also  reap significant tax savings.

What Should You Give?
Many charitable gifts are made in cash and by checks. When you itemize your deductions, gifts of cash may reduce income taxes on up to half of your adjusted gross income. Excess charitable deductions can be carried forward for up to five years.

Often, more creative ways to stretch your charitable dollars are desirable. Listed below are a variety of giving options:

  • Charitable Gift Annuity or Charitable Remainder Trust
  • Gifts of appreciated securities or stock
  • Gifts of life insurance
  • Retained Life Estate
  • Lead Trust
  • Bequest
  • Corporate Partners

Tax-free gifts from a Traditional or Roth IRA through 2009
In 2008, Congress renewed a special tax provision for people over age 70½. It is  possible to make  tax-free gifts from traditional IRA and Roth IRA accounts. You may direct all or a portion of your mandatory withdrawal, up to $100,000 per year, from a traditional or Roth IRA to Baptist Health Foundation. No income tax deductions are available for IRA gifts, but IRA donors save taxes nonetheless because their gifts can replace required minimum distributions that are 100 percent taxable.  Gifts must be made directly to qualified charities and may not be made to donor-advised funds, private foundations or supporting organizations.  These benefits only apply during 2008 and 2009.  Check with your IRA administrator for more details.
