Breathe Easy with Pulmonary RehabilitationPulmonary rehabilitation is an outpatient service used to reduce and control the physical complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A person with COPD has problems breathing due to illnesses such as emphysema, chronic asthma and chronic bronchitis. This type of rehabilitation can give a patient more independence in carrying out his or her daily activities and may result in fewer visits to the emergency room. Pulmonary rehabilitation also can decrease the number of days a patient spends in the hospital. One year of rehabilitation is equal to the cost of two days of hospitalization.
During pulmonary rehabilitation, the patient is treated by a staff of therapists licensed by the State of Florida and credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care. They are trained to provide personalized and monitored care with state-of-the-art treatments.
The program
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation program consists of an individualized care plan that includes two to three treatments per week. Nutritionists, psychologists, physical therapists and other experts are consulted as needed. This multidisciplinary approach is used to determine a patient’s rehabilitation plan. Part of the program consists of breathing retraining, proper use of medications and relaxation techniques taught by trained therapists. A maintenance program is available to patients after their rehabilitation training ends.
PPO/HMO approval is required. Medicare patients are allowed up to 10 visits.
