The Betty Jane France Children’s Emergency Center at Homestead Hospital, called Speediatrics, is a dedicated pediatrics unit decorated in a motorsports theme that’s sometimes visited by NASCAR drivers.
The unique unit is one of only two in the country founded by Betty Jane France, chairwoman of the NASCAR Foundation. The colorful artwork and décor helps ease the hospital experiences of ill or injured children.

• Speediatrics is the only Emergency Center in south Miami-Dade County dedicated to children.
• The eight-bed unit includes a pediatric trauma room where the most severely ill or injured children can be stabilized.
• Highly experienced pediatric emergency physicians supported by a team of skilled pediatric nurses provide general emergency pediatric care.
• Nurses and support staff are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and many also have training in caring for newborns.
• Children with more critical illnesses and injuries have access to the resources and pediatric subspecialists of Baptist Children’s Hospital in Kendall.
Facts:
• More than 15,000 patient visits a year are handled in the Speediatrics Children’s Emergency Center.
• Support from the NASCAR Foundation, Homestead-Miami Speedway and the Pineapple Gala brought Speediatrics to Homestead Hospital in 2002.
• In December 2007, The Betty Jane France Children’s Emergency Center, Speediatrics, was unveiled at the new Homestead Hospital which opened earlier that year. Proceeds from the Pineapple Gala and NASCAR Foundation donations helped fund the renovation.
• Since its inception, the Pineapple Gala has raised nearly $1 million for children’s services at Homestead Hospital, including Speediatrics
