Welcome
South Miami Hospital’s warm environment and focus on patient care and customer service makes it a great place to volunteer your time. Our volunteers work at the information desk, in waiting rooms, at the Gift Shop and in various departments throughout the hospital. Volunteering is a wonderful way to learn new job skills, meet new people and feel good about helping others.
Our volunteers come from all walks of life. We have retirees, working professionals, college students and teens fulfilling community service requirements for school.
Teens, ages 15 to 18, are placed in our after school Teen Volunteer or Teen Volunteer Summer program, which runs from June through August. During the summer program, teens come in once or twice a week and work three to four hours each time.
Adult volunteers work a minimum of one shift per week, lasting three to four hours. The volunteering office works to accommodate their schedules and areas of interest. On this site you will find more information on how to become a volunteer at South Miami Hospital.
You may fill out an application online or contact Berkeley Nixon (786 662-8130, berkelen@baptisthealth.net) to have an application mailed to you. After the application has been submitted, the prospective volunteer will be contacted to schedule an interview. The intention of the interview is to get general information about why the applicant wants to volunteer and to discuss availability. At this time the applicant will have the chance to clarify any questions they may have. They also will be oriented about the paperwork that has to be completed. Once we have received all paperwork back, including the reference letter, the applicant will be invited to a Volunteer Orientation.
Thank you for interest in becoming part of our wonderful group of volunteers.
Sincerely,
Berkeley Nixon
