South Miami Hospital

South Miami Hospital
6200 SW 73 Street
South Miami, Florida 33143
786-662-4000

Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) makes available data on hospital prices and performance on their Internet website at www.floridahealthstat.com.

South Miami Hospital opened in 1960 as a 100-bed hospital in what was then a small suburban community. As the area has exploded with new residents, and healthcare with new possibilities, the hospital has kept pace – expanding in size and continually updating its services to meet the community’s needs.

South Miami Hospital enjoys an excellent reputation for quality care in many areas, including award-winning maternity services, help for infants and children with developmental delays and disabilities, addiction treatment, weight-loss surgery, diabetes services, a comprehensive cancer program, a wide range of outpatient services and cardiovascular services at South Miami Heart Center. The hospital was recognized as a Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence in 2004, by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a part of American Nurses Association. It was also on Solucient’s list of top 100 hospitals in the country, based on several quality indicators.

The opening of the Medical Arts Building and parking garage in November 2005 signaled the completion of the hospital's first phase of a $130 million construction project.  Other phases planned include expanded Emergency and Surgical Centers, and diagnostic areas.

Resources for Hospital Data
Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) makes available data on hospital prices and performance on their Internet website at http://www.floridahealthstat.com. The data on hospital prices and performance are based on a compilation of charges for the average patient. A patient's bill may vary from the average shown, depending upon the severity of illness and individual care needs.

Baptist Health is committed to quality healthcare and patient safety, participating in a variety of state and national initiatives.

New Program Gives Women What They Deserve: Attention
South Miami Heart Center's new Women’s Heart Program finally gives women and their hearts the attention they deserve. For a $60 fee, women receive a 50-minute, one-on-one consultation with a cardiovascular nurse. The session includes an electrocardiogram; cholesterol, blood pressure and Body Mass Index screenings; a cardiac risk profile; and a physician referral, if it is needed. And because stress can be a factor in heart-related problems, women can also sign up for a 30-minute massage for an additional $40.

  Robot Assists in Hysterectomy
A new form of laparoscopic hysterectomy – using a robot for assistance – has improved cancer surgery so drastically that doctors say some women with cervical, endometrial or ovarian cancer may not need chemotherapy or radiation following surgery. “The robot is incredible,” said gynecologic oncologist Ricardo Estape, M.D., who is performing robot-assisted hysterectomies and other gynecologic procedures at South Miami Hospital.
