Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute

Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute
8900 North Kendall Drive
Miami, Florida 33176
786-596-5990

Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute offers a multidisciplinary team approach to preventing, diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease. The Institute’s philosophy – to treat the entire cardiovascular system as a single entity – sets it apart from other medical centers that treat the heart and circulatory system separately. Established in 1987, under the leadership of Barry T. Katzen, M.D., Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute houses state-of-the-art diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation areas, as well as the most advanced endovascular suites in the world. In addition, the Institute’s medical staff is actively involved in many federally-approved clinical research studies to find better, less invasive ways of diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease.

Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute Clinical Research Trials
Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute’s medical staff has conducted clinical research since it was established at Baptist Hospital in 1987. Institute physicians have pioneered procedures, including stent-grafts for aortic aneurysms and carotid stents that are less invasive than traditional treatments.

Currently, the Institute is actively involved in more than 50 federally-approved clinical trials to find better ways of diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease with new devices and drugs. Click here for more information on the Institute’s research trials.

For more information about all of the research trials available at Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute, please e-mail us bcvi@baptisthealth.net or call 786-596-3077.

Resources for Hospital Data
Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) makes available data on hospital prices and performance on their Internet website at http://www.floridahealthstat.com. The data on hospital prices and performance are based on a compilation of charges for the average patient. A patient's bill may vary from the average shown, depending upon the severity of illness and individual care needs.

Baptist Health is committed to quality healthcare and patient safety, participating in a variety of state and national initiatives.

  New Treatment to Prevent Strokes
If the carotid arteries in your neck become blocked with plaque, you're at risk for having a stroke. These main arteries supply blood flow to the brain. The Institute is one of 42 sites in the nation participating in an NIH-sponsored research trial comparing carotid stents to surgery.  Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute physicians have more than eight years of experience in developing a new procedure that opens blocked arteries without major surgery.

  About Aortic Aneurysms

An abdominal aortic aneurysm is a large bulge in the wall of the main artery that supplies blood from the heart to the rest of the body. When blood flows through the aorta, the weakened area bulges like a balloon. If the balloon grows large enough, it can burst. Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute physicians are leaders in treating this life-threatening condition. Click here for Aneurysm Patients Make History article.
