  Mariners Hospital Leads in Patient Satisfaction
Where patient satisfaction is concerned, Mariners Hospital is Monroe County’s highest-scoring hospital. Recently, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released detailed patient satisfaction data from a new government survey known as HCAHPS, which stands for Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems.  The survey measures patient satisfaction at hospitals across the country. Nearly 4,000 hospitals nationwide participated in the survey, and Mariners significantly outperformed both national and regional averages.

  Wii Used to Treat Patients
Ninety-year-old Jean Kennison is back on the tennis courts.  This time she’s swinging a racket on a virtual court in the physical therapy department of Mariners Hospital not the courts of Panama where she played as a young woman. Ms. Kennison, an Islamorada resident, broke her hip a few months ago and needed therapy to help her regain her balance.  As a good sport, she was willing to be one of the first Mariners physical therapy patients to use the Nintendo video game system, Wii Sports, as part of her rehabilitation regimen.

  Mariners Hospital Medical Staff Elects New Leaders
The Medical Staff of Mariners Hospital has selected a new slate of leaders for the next two years.  Neurologist Elisa Brown-Soltero, M.D., will serve as president; and pediatrician Stanley Zuba, M.D., will fill the seat of vice president.
