Lace up the sneakers for the Homestead Hospital 5K Walk/Run for Wellness on Saturday, May 17. The 5K (3.1 mile) route winds through the campus of the new Homestead Hospital at Campbell Drive and SW 147 Avenue. The starting gun will fire at 8 a.m. Parking is available at Homestead Hospital.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Homestead Hospital Center for Excellence in Nursing, which helps educate, train and develop the nursing staff, support nursing scholarships and improve patient care with nurse-approved equipment and programs. Race participants will have two opportunities to register. They can register early by calling 786-243-8112 or emailing DeliaD@baptisthealth.net. Applications are also available in the Foundation office at Homestead Hospital. Participants can also register on race day from 6:30-7:45 a.m. at the hospital. The cost is $20 before the race and $25 the day of the race. Participants who collect more than $50 in donations from sponsors do not have to pay the registration fee. Awards will be presented to the top male and female runner in each age group, the top overall male and female runner and top overall wheelchair participant. The age groups range from 10 and younger to 70 and older. In addition, a prize will be awarded to the person raising the most money through sponsors.
To help prepare for the race, Homestead Hospital will be hosting a pasta dinner, Friday, May 16, from 4:30-7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. The cost is $6 per person. To make a reservation for the dinner, call 786-243-8112.
