Renowned Chefs to Host Interactive Dinner for New Advanced Breast Surgical and Imaging Center
May 09: Micah Edelstein of Bravo’s hit show Top Chef, and Kira Volz, Miami Beach’s Creek 28 executive chef, will host the inaugural Pineapple Sauté and Sip Interactive Dinner, hosted by Baptist Outpatient Services. May 18: Cancer survivors and their loved ones can experience the delight of expression through the creative arts at the Baptist-South Miami Regional Cancer Program’s free Cancer Survivors Day celebration, at South Miami Hospital's Clarke Education Center, U.S. 1 and SW 62 Avenue. Play and Say: A Developmental Learning Program for Children
A six-week program for children ages 2-5 years old that uses songs, games, crafts, interactive media and social experiences to help children develop age-appropriate speech, language and motor skills. Classes are grouped by age and skills and are taught by bilingual and licensed speech-language pathologists with extensive training in pediatrics. The group will meet Monday-Friday beginning June 11, from 9-11 a.m. or from 12 noon-2 p.m. at South Miami Hospital’s Child Development Center, 5975 Sunset Drive, Suite 100. Fast ForWord to Successful Reading
South Miami Hospital’s Child Development Center now offers a program to help children develop their language and cognitive skills for successful learning and reading. Fast ForWord improves skills using the Learning MAPS model of improving Memory, Attention, Processing and Sequencing. Three versions of Fast ForWord, designed for specific needs and age groups, are being offered by the Child Development Center. While children can start the program at any time during the school year, the intense training is ideal for summer, when children aren’t required to do other homework. Yoga-style Exercise for Children with Special Needs
Exercise for children, ages 6-17, with decreased balance, muscle tone and strength, or with emotional, behavioral, weight or attention issues. Smoking Cessation: The Elusive Addiction
South Miami Hospital offers a six-week program to help adult participants (18 years and up) stop smoking. In partnership with the American Lung Association (ALA) Freedom from Smoking program — and with the help of a certified ALA facilitator, a respiratory therapist and a smoking cessation counselor — smokers in this six-week program, The Elusive Addiction, learn to accept the addiction that may have eluded them for many years.
