The NEW Versant RN Residency at Baptist Health South Florida

Posted Mar 27, 2008

At Baptist Health South Florida, we realize that few assignments are more rewarding and more challenging than nursing in an acute care environment. We also realize the challenges facing new nursing school graduates. So we are implementing our 18-week RN Residency Program to support new Graduate RNs.

Starting: August 6, 2007

The Versant RN Residency is a comprehensive education and training system designed specifically to transition newly graduated registered nurses from students to safe, competent professional practitioners.

Integrated into our hospital's education structure, the Versant RN Residency includes guided clinical experience, instructor-led core curriculum, a formal mentoring program, debriefing/self-care sessions, and 360-degree evaluation.

The Versant RN Residency is the start of a journey from knowledge to knowing for the new graduate registered nurse.

The Versant RN Residency at Baptist Health South Florida is committed to life-long learning for all. To this goal, the Versant RN Residency is based on Dr. Patricia Benner's Novice-to-Expert Framework. This framework assumes that nurses develop along a continuum that is life long, acquiring different skill levels as they progress in their careers. Versant has customized all RN Residency curricula for the new graduate RN at the novice to advanced-beginner level. The curriculum is designed to provide the new RN graduate with the right information needed by the new graduate nurse, at the right time, in the right sequence.

At the conclusion of the Versant RN Residency, all RN residents should have achieved an advanced-beginner status.

Baptist Health will have three (3) cohorts start annually.

March 10, 2008
