Your Pineapple Perks
Free Perks
These are the core benefits that Baptist Health offers at no cost to you.
Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance
Baptist Health offers a $10,000 basic group life insurance and $10,000 Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance. You can buy additional life and AD&D insurance, too — up to three times your salary.
Survivors’ Benefit
Baptist Health also offers an additional $10,000 survivors’ benefit when you fill out a Personal Wellness Profile and keep it updated every year.
Short-term Disability Insurance
The short-term program gives you financial security in the event of an illness or injury, offering payments equal to 60 percent of your salary. This option takes effect after 14 days of consecutive absence due to non-work-related accident and illness. It has a maximum benefit period of 24 weeks and a maximum benefit of $750 per week.
Long-term Disability Insurance
This coverage provides you with payments during periods of long-term disability equal to 60 percent of your monthly salary, up to a maximum of $5,000 a month, if you cannot work. Benefits are payable after short-term disability ends (after 26 weeks).
Business Travel Insurance
Baptist Health provides a business travel accident insurance policy for all employees. The coverage applies to accidents that occur during business travel with a principal sum of up to $500,000.
Flexible Perks
These are the flexible benefits which you can choose to participate in and which you pay for.
Employee Medical Plans
Baptist Health gives you a choice from a variety of medical plans, which provide preventive coverage in addition to comprehensive coverage for major illness and injuries. Employees who live in Monroe County or who work at Mariners Hospital have the option of participating in a self-funded medical plan specific to the Upper Keys.
The medical plans also offer prescription drug benefits with low co-pays for generic drugs and reasonable co-pays for formulary and non-formulary medications. Reasonable co-pays for visits to your doctor, for hospital admissions and for outpatient surgical procedures also are offered.
The Baptist Health Flex Credit
If you’re covered under another medical plan such as your spouse’s, you can qualify for a flex credit — a $1,000 bonus, paid in per-pay-period installments of $38.46.
Dental Plans
Employees have a choice of dental plans, most of which include some coverage for orthodontics. There are two dental maintenance organizations (DMOs), one Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), and the Mariners Dental Plan (open to employees who live or work in Monroe County). If you enroll in the DMO, you will need to choose your dentist from a list of participating providers in order to get coverage for dental services. If you chose the PPO or the Mariners Dental Plan, you may use any dental provider you like, but when you use a PPO Provider (in network) you get more coverage and can save money.
Vision Plans
Baptist Health offers two vision plans. You can select coverage for either an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
Dependent Life Insurance
You can buy life insurance for your spouse and dependent(s) at affordable rates.
Legal Service Plans
The need for legal services is part of everyday life. If you buy a home, need a will, have a car accident, adopt a child or have problems with a contractor, you may need an attorney. Baptist Health’s prepaid legal services plan can help cover some of the costs of retaining a lawyer.
Healthcare Flexible Spending Account
No matter how much medical, dental or vision coverage you have, some of your costs will not be covered by insurance. One easy way to reduce out-of-pocket care costs is through a healthcare flexible spending account. You make regular deposits — up to $2,500 per year — to your account through payroll deduction. You pay no federal income tax or Social Security tax on the money you deposit into these accounts. However, the IRS has a “use it or lose it” rule: You must forfeit any account balances not used by the end of the calendar year.
With a healthcare flexible spending account, you can get reimbursed for expenses any of three convenient ways: with a debit card, which you can swipe for such expenses as co-pays at your doctor’s office or pharmacy; via auto-rollover, an automatic filing process available to employees enrolled in a Baptist-United medical plan; or by submitting a paper claim form with your documentation and receipts.
Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account
You may be eligible to open a flexible spending account to pay dependent care expenses. You can set aside up to $5,000 per year into this account to pay for care of your children or other dependent family members, as well as for summer day camps. You must be a member of the Baptist Health South Florida Federal Credit Union to participate.
Pet Membership Savings Program
Your pet needs healthcare, too! That’s why Baptist Health offers Pet Assure, a comprehensive membership savings program that helps lower the costs of veterinary and everyday care.
